Career Opportunities at Safe Harbor
Do you love teenagers? Enjoy boating and all things water-related? Is God leading you to work with adolescents? Come live, work, play, pray and be a part of the family at Safe Harbor Academy, a residential program, in a maritime environment for adrift (at-risk) teen boys, where we help them rebuild their lives and relationships.
Safe Harbor is seeking mature single males or married couples who have boating/sailing experience or those who are adventurous, teachable, not easily offended, in other words, those who are mature in the faith. All staff and boys live aboard their own vessel or one owned by the ministry, staff quarters are separate from residents. We ask that our staff be mature with great communication skills and be especially willing to listen and talk about issues that arise with the students, themselves, and their superiors. Staff members need to have a heart for this kind of ministry, to provide the tough love and support the students need while maintaining the discipline and accountability required. Staff provide supervision and ensure the boys’ safety during their time on duty. Boys attend our on-campus high school program four days per week. Seeking at least one individual with foodservice experience (food preparation, menu planning, purchasing, etc.)
Staff live on campus in one of the program’s vessels OR their own vessel or RV. Work schedules guarantee time for rest and training with 4 on/3 off. All staff are required to rotate through day and night shifts during the training period and to fill in if needed. Competitive salary plus benefits – health, dental, 10 days paid time off, laundry facilities on campus, meals on campus. Join our team and be a ripple that creates waves of change for eternity. Safe Harbor is a Non-Smoking Facility
Safe Harbor is a residential education program for teen boys who are struggling to adapt to life in these difficult years. Most of the boys come from broken homes, some are orphans, or have other difficulties that necessitate them to live outside the family home. Safe Harbor provides a structured, stable, loving, yet disciplined environment to help the boys learn to become men of character, integrity, and vision.
Safe Harbor and its staff provide the boys with the necessary structure, stability, discipline, love, and we promote God’s Word to assist in this process.
Safe Harbor provides on-the-job training; a unique waterfront setting on the St. John’s River; staff input is valued and encouraged; wonderful recreational activities abound; and an awesome opportunity to help change and impact lives in a positive manner.
The majority of boys here are well-behaved and mannerly because we require that behavior, but it takes courage and commitment from the entire staff. It is not our “job” to be their friend, buddy, pal, or peer, we are called to be the adults in their lives, tell them the truth, and hold them accountable for their actions. This is not a task for the weak, the newly saved, or for people who must be liked by those they lead.
