A Hope-Filled Future – Thanks to You!
Helping at-risk boys begins with providing for immediate needs, like a safe place to stay and loving care – but it doesn’t end there. Safe Harbor aims to help the boys in its care grow into men of character, integrity, and hope. That’s why it’s always so exciting to witness moments when they begin to catch a vision for their future.
One of the ways Safe Harbor accomplishes that is by introducing the boys to potential career opportunities. Here are just a few of the ways that have happened in recent weeks:
• Captain Mark DePalma Ret., a long-time volunteer at Safe Harbor, helps the boys develop the same values he learned in service to our nation through the US Marine Corps. As a result, many graduates have chosen to enlist in the USMC.
• CLEP college credits are available to any boys who apply themselves. Two young men, John and Clark, recently earned 12 college credits each – an incredible achievement for boys whose education many had given up on.
• TOTE Maritime, a corporate partner that recently provided a huge food donation to Safe Harbor, discussed careers in the maritime industry with the boys.
These opportunities help pave the way for a future many of our boys never thought possible. One 2010 graduate recently called to say, “I have children of my own, I’m a nurse, and I want to thank you for what you did to help me.”
Additionally, in the past month, we have hosted recruiters from the U.S. Army, the U.S. Marine Corps, and the U.S. Air Force. The recruiters were amazed at the boys’ politeness, respectfulness, and physical fitness.
Isn’t that incredible? Not only do these boys have healing for today, but they are also embracing hope for tomorrow – which is only possible thanks to the generous support of friends like you.
Thank you for investing in the lives of these boys to provide the kind of safe and structured environment they need to grow into men who will impact generations to come!
